Montessori Journey

Experience Education the Way Montessori Children Do...

...By working hands-on in their classrooms!

MJ UE
Nature's Way Montessori School is offering Knoxville residents a chance to get a better understanding of Dr. Maria Montessori's unique hands-on and child-centric approach to education.     This is an opportunity for community members to experience firsthand the child-centered, individualized approach developed almost 100 years ago by Dr. Maria Montessori, the first female physician in Italy.  The Montessori approach has incorporated innovations that are now considered on the cutting edge of today's school reform movement such as multi-age groupings, a rich and extensive curriculum implemented with hands-on materials, cross-discipline learning, and care of the global environment since 1907.

After an overview of Montessori education, participants will spend time in each classroom from Toddler through Middle School and will have the opportunity to work with the same materials that the children use every day.  Instructions for lessons will be available and teachers will also be on hand to present lessons individually or in small group.  The same guidelines that are used during the school day will apply to the Montessori Journey:  Work peacefully; Respect others and the environment; Work with a lesson as long as you would like; Work independently or in small groups.
