This three hour workshop will provide general information and statistics related to psychotic illness. Dr. Kristin Candan and Dr. Kristen Risola will also explore the ramifications of untreated psychosis, identification of prodromal and first episode symptoms of psychosis, introduction of CBT skills for psychosis, and information on components of first episode treatment programs. ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:
Kristin Candan, Ph.D., M.B.A.: Dr. Candan received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University and went on to pursue an M.B.A. in Health Services Management from Hofstra University. Dr. Candan is currently the team leader and a senior psychologist at the Early Treatment Program (ETP) at the Zucker Hillside Hospital, part of the Northwell Health System. The ETP is dedicated to providing comprehensive and recovery-oriented outpatient services to adolescents and young adults with first episode psychosis. Dr. Candan is responsible for patient care, recruitment and training of psychology trainees, overseeing day-to-day operations, and administering the Office of Mental Health OnTrackNY grant at the ETP site. She enjoys maintaining a small private practice.
Kristen Risola, Ph.D.:
Dr. Risola is a supervising psychologist for the Early Treatment Program. She received her Ph.D. from Hofstra University. Dr. Risola is trained in CBT as well as Dialectical Behavior Therapy through the Linehan Institute, Behavioral Tech. She has extensive experience working with those with psychotic diagnoses, anxiety disorders, and character pathology. Dr. Risola provides clinical services, supervises psychology externs, and is the Outreach and Recruitment Specialist for OnTrackNY as well as the Early Treatment Program. She also has a faculty practice where she sees patients privately for therapy.
