Pipe Band Competitions

Conducted under the rules of the Western U.S. Pipe Band Association

Special notes for bands:

  • Per WUSPBA rules, there is no five-minute grace period between band competitions. Bands must be at the line at their specified time.  A final tuning area will be provided.
  • Bands must be registered with the WUSPBA or a similar association.
  • Entry fee is $65 per band per grade.
  • Contact Christina Marshall at christina79marshall@hotmail.com if wishing to challenge up; $25 fee.
  • Send band roster to Christina Marshall at christina79marshall@hotmail.com.
  • Prize money will be awarded only if there are two or more bands competing in a grade.
  • Entry form must be received by July 22, 2017.
  • Draw for order of play for both days will be at 10 a.m. Saturday morning at the Piping Tent.
  • Each band is requested to supply one member to assist at the Piping Tent.
  • Band participation by invitation only.
  • To receive travel allowance, bands must participate in Midday and Last Post ceremonies, both days.  Band must wear acceptable Highland dress as determined by the Festival committee.

Special Award for Best Band of the Games:

The John Flanagan Award is awarded to the best band based on aggregate of five points for 1st place, three points for second, and one point for third in band competitions.  In event of a tie, judges will select the winner.  Results from challenging up do not count toward this award.

Prize Money:

Grade V each event: $150/100/75

Grade IV each event: $200/150/100

Grade III each event: $250/200/150

Band Tents:

Space is available on the Festival field for band tents.  Daytime use only, and food must be carefully cleaned up and put into bear-proof containers provided by Snowmass Village before leaving the field on Saturday (because bears seek food at night).  No selling of band merchandise outside of the band tent area.

 

Waiver: In consideration of the acceptance of this entry, I agree to the following; 1) I am not an agent, employee or representative of the Games; 2) I have read and will abide by the rules of the Games;  3) I will be responsible for injuries to me which result from m conduct; 4) I will reimburse the Games for any legal obligations or expenses that result from my conduct; 5) the term GAMES includes the St. Andrew Society of Colorado or its Games Committee, its agents, representatives, lessors and sponsors.
