Hub Pharmacy Training - VAT Issues in the Pharmacy Sector

Venue: Victoria House, Capital Park, Fulboun, Cambridge.

About the Seminar

This training session is hosted by the East of England NHS Collaborative Procurement Hub and will be led by Aruni Mukherjee of KPMG. It is free to NHS staff who work in any area of Pharmacy, Procurement or related fields.

Aruni Mukherjee is a Director in KPMG's VAT team and advises a number of NHS bodies in London and East Anglia. He has over 9 years' experience in providing core compliance, optimisation and structuring advice to the NHS and has been involved in several complex negotiations with HMRC on behalf of his NHS clients.

The session will consider some of the topical VAT issues in the pharmacy sector. NHS bodies cannot generally reclaim any VAT they incur on the purchase of drugs. However, a non-NHS body can reclaim VAT on outpatients' drugs when provided to NHS patients under a relevant prescription. In addition to third party commercial pharmacies, this also means that an NHS subsidiary entity can potentially secure the same savings.

On homecare, NHS bodies are entering into new operating models of delivering care which are increasingly based in the community (including direct to patients' homes), and some of these models can access specific VAT reliefs directed towards homecare, the knowledge of which can help create efficiencies.

The seminar will also cover HMRC's current attitude to tax planning and engaging with taxpayers within the NHS.
