We mark the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in a time of great upheaval and division at home and around the globe. It is critical that our voice, as the people of God, be heard as a reminder that all are made in God’s image.  At a time of such great need, how do we model mutual respect and attend to the issues confronting us and our neighbors near and far? On May 22,  we gather to consider how the Holy Spirit is re-forming us as the Word of God continues to change and renew the world. How can we be Church Together, for the sake of the world, in Pennsylvania?

Bring your faith to the table, and join Lutheran advocates from across the Commonwealth for a day of worship, learning and inspiration to ground and deepen your call to faith-rooted advocacy. The day will feature a keynote address by Dr. Cynthia Moe-Lobeda, Professor of Theological and Social Ethics, Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary of California Lutheran Univeristy, legislative briefing and visit training, issues and faith formation workshops, a continental breakfast, lunch and special advocacy celebration. Come to be inspired, prepared and equipped to act on issues that matter.

Lutheran Day 2017 -- Bring a partner (or two!) -- A special emphasis will be placed on strengthening our faith communities for advocacy, with workshops on how to have difficult conversations on "political" topics, faithful citizenship in a time of divisive rhetoric. Climate change, clean water, poverty, education, human trafficking and mental/physical health care -- all of which connect to our hunger owrk -- are amonth the issues on which advocates will be equipped to act.

 Plus -- Find  projects that combine service, learning and advocay to make the Sept. 10 Churchwide Day of Service a day for "God's work. Our hands. Our voices!" 

We are pleased to welcome the LTSG Bookstore, which will offer books by the day's speakers as well as other titles. 

Keynote Speaker:  Dr. Cynthia Moe-Lobeda, author of Public Church: For the Life of the World, and most recently, Resisting Structural Evil: Love as Ecological-Economic Vocation, is Professor of Theological and Social Ethics, Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary of California Lutheran Univeristy, and Core Doctoral Faculty, the Graduate Theological Union.

Dr. Moe-Lobeda has lectured or consulted in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and many parts of North America in theology and matters of climate justice, economic justice, environmental racism, economic globalization, moral agency, public church, and eco-feminist theology. In addition to the books above, she is author of Healing a Broken World: Globalization and God (Fortress, 2002), and numerous articles and chapters. She is co-author of Saint Francis and the Foolishness of God (Orbis, 1993), Say to this Mountain: Mark’s Story of Discipleship (Orbis, 1996), and The Bible and Ethics: A New Conversation (Fortress, forthcoming).  She holds a doctoral degree in Christian Ethics from Union Theological Seminary, affiliated with Columbia University.

Moe-Lobeda has served on commissions or projects of the World Council of Churches and the Lutheran World Federation. She was appointed theological consultant to the Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and has served as a health worker in Honduras and as Director of the Washington, D.C. office of Augsburg College’s Center for Global Education. She lives in Seattle, loves to hike in the Cascade Mountains, and relishes the breezes and lush beauty of Western Washington.

Registration Fee covers the day at Trinity, continental breakfast and lunch.

• Early registration (by April 21) is $30.00/$35 thereafter. Students are $15.00. Registration closes on May 13. Walk-ins are welcome although we cannot guarantee a meal. Payment can be made through PayPal, by sending in your check or at the door.

Accommodations - A block of hotel rooms is being held at the Radisson Hotel Harrisburg (located in Camp Hill) until April 21 - mention LAMPa to receive a reduced rate.  Radisson website.

Logistics - Ample parking is available at Trinity. If you are coming by Amtrak please contact the LAMPa office to arrange a shuttle from the Harrisburg station.  The Capitol Complex can be difficult to navigate, involving many steps and uneven floor surfaces. If you will need assistance accessing the building, or wonder if you might, please contact LAMPa staff.

Workshops - Registrants will receive a separate mailing with a detailed list of workshops and presenters along with other briefing materials.
