CARING FOR PATIENTS IMPACTED BY INTERPERSONAL VIOLENCE
(2-Hour Domestic Violence CME)

Suzanne L. Harrison, M.D. 
Associate Professor and Education Director, Family Medicine 
FSU College of Medicine 

Dr. Harrison teaches in all four years of medical education. She is the Education Director for Family Medicine. In this role, she is tasked to develop, implement and evaluate the family medicine curriculum during the clinical years. This includes the required Family Medicine Clerkship during Year Three and the Family Medicine Sub-Internship in Year Four. During the first two years of medical education, Dr. Harrison works with students in the Doctoring series. She serves as a small group facilitator, leads large group lectures and is a clinical instructor in the Clinical Learning Center. Dr. Harrison is the course director for the Literature and Medicine elective, and frequently works with interested students through Special Topics and Research electives in the fourth year of medical school. In addition to medical student teaching, Dr. Harrison frequently participates in undergraduate courses at the College of Medicine through lecture/discussion sessions in the Honors Medical Seminar and Careers in Medicine. 

Dr. Harrison provides direct patient care at University Health Services, where she also serves as a clinical preceptor for students in the first and second year of medical school. Dr. Harrison has developed a free clinic at Refuge House in 2003, where she provided weekly care for survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking until 2013. She has provided medical care to underserved patients at the rural county health departments as needed since 2003, and often volunteers her time at Neighborhood Medical Center, through special events, and leads a medical mission trip to Los Cedros, Nicaragua every summer.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the Florida Medical Association and Capital Medical Society.  The Florida Medical Association is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Florida Medical Association designates this live activity for a maximum of two (2.0) AMA PRA Category 1 Credit.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
