London Hunt & Country Club, 1431 Oxford Street, London, ON

Succession of a family owned business can often be one of the most significant challenges a business owner faces.  A delicate balance of strategy, ambitions and opportunities must be struck in order to delineate development plans that will serve the broader good of both the stewardship of the business as well as the satisfaction of all involved.

In this session we discuss how to formulate a collaborative approach to succession planning that engages family members in a means to share openly while avoiding criticism and unnecessary emotional distress.

Goals & Objectives:

  • Provide a proven approach to collaborative family succession planning for participations to apply.
  • Identify approaches to create early engagement and support of planning efforts.
  • Identify how to create an open forum for collaboration quickly and sustainably.
  • Define the critical mistakes to avoid in succession planning and how to do so.
  • Introduce methods to overcome resistance and dissention amongst family members during the process.

Learning Outcomes:

  • When to start discussions and engagement in succession planning
  • How to best approach planning to engage the entire family
  • Methods to overcome resistance and negative feedback that can derail progress
  • Tools to use in approaching the succession process
  • Ways to keep momentum moving to formulate a successful succession plan
