Event Summary:

Despite the age, the size, and the economic impact of the Social Security system, the myths and misunderstandings about what the program is, as well as what it isn’t, are sizeable. Unfortunately, financial service professionals sometimes fall victim to the same myths as members of the public.

80 million Baby Boomers will be retiring in the next 20 years, and an Associated Press/LifeGoesStrong.com survey this past spring found that 65% of them said that they would be counting on Social Security to be the cornerstone of their retirement income. These same Boomers will soon be turning to financial services professionals for help in navigating the system, and so if you are going to provide real “value added” to your clients and prospects, you need to have a clear understanding of what the program provides, as well as what it doesn’t.

Kurt Czarnowski, currently the Principal in Czarnowski Consulting, and the Social Security Administration’s former Regional Communications Director for New England, will give you just that.

Besides providing a general overview of the system, he will explain how a benefit is computed, when someone can begin to collect, and the impact of work in retirement. He will also cover spouse’s benefits and the various “strategies” that people can employ to maximize their Social Security benefits.
