What is a Tobacco Treatment Specialist?

A Tobacco Treatment Specialist is a professional who possesses the skills, knowledge and training to provide effective, evidence-based interventions for tobacco dependence.  The TTS may have various professional affiliations and may work in a variety of settings including, but not limited to, hospitals, regional and village health clinics, educational settings, social service agencies, mental health programs and substance abuse treatment programs.  The TTS may engage not only in providing treatment but also in educating others (health care professionals, administrators, scientists, tobacco users, non-tobacco users) about the harmful effects of tobacco, the different tobacco dependence treatment options, and best practices for tobacco prevention efforts.  The course offers a day's worth of motivational interviewing techniques.

Additional Information: A portion of the TTS Training will be conducted online. Participants will be asked to complete an online pretest prior to their arrival and will have access to additional activities and resources. We encourage participants to bring a laptop or tablet to access these resources throughout the week of training and to take the final exam at the end. For those who cannot bring their own laptop or tablet, there will be a computer lab reserved on the last day of training for participants to take the final exam. Once registered for the training, more information will be provided.

**Continuing education pending.
