If you'd like to take your couples therapy to another level, this group is for you.

We explore couples therapy through case study. Members present cases where they are facing questions or challenges. As we discuss these cases, you will learn more principles and methods of effective couples therapy.

In the past, we've talked about

  • starting with a new couple
  • beginning sessions on a good note
  • handling ambivalence
  • handling difficult clients
  • choosing which topics to discuss each meeting
  • dealing with affairs
  • dealing with anger
  • dealing with addictions
  • deaingl with narcissism
  • ending sessions with positive energy

You can present cases in any way you'd like. Some therapists simply describe their couple and ask their  questions. Some therapists make detailed case presentations with assessments and charts. Any way is fine.

With each case, we do our best to answer the therapist's questions. We discuss how best to proceed in the therapy and consider which theories and methods might apply. Sometimes, there are clear-cut answers; sometimes not. We understand that couples therapy can be very difficult.

In this group, you will learn new skills to use, and new interventions to consider. You'll learn some new ways of thinking about couples. You'll also learn more about the arts of deciding what-to-do-when, and what-to-do-with-whom. We'll draw on the work of Hendrix, Gray, Gottman, Johnson, and Real. And help you think about which approach works best with which situations.
