CSI Summer Camp

Summer 2021

The Torrington Police Department and Torrington PAL are hosting a Crime Scene Investigation Camp!

Camp will take place the week of July 12-16, 2021 from 8:30am-12:30pm at the Torrington Police Department. Camp is open to boys and girls entering grades 6-8. Cost of registration for camp is $50.

The CSI Camp will consist of an intense 5 day program instructed by Torrington Police Detectives.  The camp will give students the opportunity to work in small groups, utilizing the skills they were taught during the week to process a crime scene and solve a crime based on evidence. This years' camp will feature a very special guest, Dr. Henry Lee will join camp for a lesson.

Each Junior Investigator will learn about fingerprints, DNA, casting of shoe impressions, evidence collection and packaging, use of an alternative light source, crime scene photography, crime scene sketching, blood spatter, interview and interrogation and report writing.

Each day the Junior Investigators will learn a different ways to process the crime scene and then have the opportunity to practice what they have been taught each day.  This will be hands on experience working with police detectives.

The first three days of camp will start at 8:30 am with a morning introduction and review events of the previous day, and then the class will break up into small groups which will be led by a detective who will work with them throughout the day as they rotate through the different instruction periods of the day.  Each day will end with a group discussion.

On Thursday the group will have the opportunity to process a mock crimes scene using all the tools they practiced with during the week.  Each group will move through different stations of a crime scene and process it as Junior Investigators with the police department.

On Friday the group will finish the crime scene processing and have the opportunity to work with a K-9 officer, talk to our SWAT Team and learn about community policing and the bike patrol. The camp will end with a pizza party and an awards session.
