Since July is the month we celebrate our freedom, we try to have a speaker who has participated in that process. Well, this year, she is outstanding! Annie Walker’s mother was in and out of hospitals during Annie’s entire childhood, and passed away when Annie was only 12. Then her father passed away when she was 17. In her senior year of college, Annie got married and left school to have her first child. After a few years, and another child, Annie experienced a heartbreaking divorce. Wanting to complete college, she enlisted in the Army. What had started as a way to finish her education, (including an MBA) became her career. She has excelled professionally in ways that astound, both locally and nationally, including her current position as Director of Veteran’s Education, Training and Employment for Virginia. But drama was not yet gone from Annie’s life. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with a tumor on the nerve between her brain and inner ear. But ever the champion, she is living life to the fullest and inspiring all who know her. If you know someone who needs to feel lifted, come, and bring them to hear Annie’s story.
