What exactly does a certificate of insurance tell you?
What does it tell you about your sub-contractor?
Have you ever had trouble with a certificate of insurance?
Has coverage not applied?
What exclusions should you look for in a certificate of insurance?

Many, if not all, of our member contractors use a “subcontractor” at one time or another. It’s important that you and your company are properly protected. This lunch is intended to present an in depth look at common pitfalls of insurance certificates and ACORD forms – COI’s.  Without a valid COI or “correct” coverage, your company and your insurance provider could be on the hook for injuries or losses caused by your subcontractors on your project. So, it’s wise to be vigilant and watch for fraud and or lack of proper coverage.

On the face of the certificate, you think your sub-contractor is providing you proof that they have the proper GL & WC coverage for your next roofing project but there are pitfalls and misunderstandings and it pays to look a little deeper! Coverage should “mirror and match” the required provisions in your Prime Contract. Who really is exposed to risk until the final acceptance of your contract? We hope you will gain an understanding as to why your company should care or look at the COI and its endorsements for your subcontractors.

  • Half of our luncheon presentation will focus on how to flag or spot fraudulent certificates and the seven signs to look for on a “doctored certificate”.
  • The other half will take a look at the general liability side. Did you know that some of the cheap policy’s subcontractors are obtaining these days, do not cover work done from heights, or other roofing related tasks! Find out the recommended general liability insurance requirements for either your program or to put in a sub contract agreement.

REMINDER - The membership lunch is not only about the FOOD and networking with other members but the opportunity to take advantage of the SPEAKERS and PROGRAMS. These lunches are an inexpensive and quick way to invest in yourself and your TEAM. You and your TEAM don't want to miss the opportunity to gain valuable tools and tips for yourself and your company!
