Part 1: Top 10 Employment Mistakes Made by Roofing Contractors

This program will address the top employment law mistakes made by roofing contractors.  Issues to be addressed include, but are not limited to, travel pay, proper classification of independent contractors, permitted deductions from employee paychecks, severance pay, documenting disciplinary actions, the importance of written job descriptions, and the importance of a discrimination and harassment policy.

Part 2: Defending an OSHA Citation

As we came to the conclusion of the Obama Administration, OSHA was particularly active.  Penalty amounts for OSHA violations have increased and OSHA has instituted a new electronic recordkeeping rule which makes your injury records available for public viewing on OSHA’s website.  During this session, we will focus on the unforeseeable employee misconduct defense to an OSHA citation in an effort to help you avoid incurring any penalties.  This part of the presentation will also include a brief discussion on the most common issues that arise during an OSHA inspection, as well as what steps should be taken to prepare for an informal conference after a Citation is issued.  We will also discuss the requirements of OSHA’s new electronic recordkeeping rule, including its anti-retaliatory components.

PHILIP J. SIEGEL is a Partner and shareholder with the firm.
