WQAW Voluntary Assessment 

The Wisconsin Legislature will convene in September to address the number of critical legislative issues before they adjourn in February 2020.  One of the most challenging issue will be the broad topic of water.

Democrat Governor Tony Evers has declared 2019 the Year of Clean Drinking Water.  The Assembly Speaker created the Water Quality Task Force that has been holding hearing across the state all year.  Both the Governor and Democrati legislators, and the Republican-controlled State Senate and Assembly have prioritized water issues that will be introduced in the legislature.  Ground water, clean drinking water, PFOA/PFOS standards, contaminated wells, nitrates, funding and more could be introduced by members of the Water Quality Task Force as well as other legislators in both parties.

We expect these bill will be introduced in September and October and legislative hearings could begin in October and go until the end of the year.  We further expect that these proposals will be debated and voted on by the legislature in January and February with the Governor signing these bills as they are approved.  This will all be done by the end of February when the legislature finishes its work for the year.

The next six months ar likely to be the most critical for the WQAW members as these issues reach the highest level of legislative action unprecedented in WQAW history.

At this time, this is the onl y assessment that's planned and approved.final result of proposed and/or implemented rules, regulations and laws.  This will not go without a cost.  With that being the case, the WQAW board has voted to support a voluntary assessment to each member.  Your contributions will help fund the current activities as well as assist in maintaining a reasonable long-term association account fund balance.
