Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance is hosting the 4th Annual “Lincoln Walks to End Abuse” event on October 8th as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Join other members of the community as we walk a loop around town to raise awareness about domestic abuse. We are inviting all members of the greater Lincoln community to participate in this event to show that we are in support of survivors, that we remember those who have been killed and that we will not tolerate abuse in our community.

 4:00 pm -5:00 pm

Check out the Clothesline Project in the Gazebo. Our Clothesline Project is a display of shirts created by local survivors and their famlies and friends. With its vibrant yellows, oranges and reds, our Clothesline Project reflects the prevalence of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Bring your kids for the Hands are Not for Hurting Activity, which focuses on engaging young children in becoming a part of a healthy community. Children are asked to trace their hands on a banner and pledge that they will not use their hands to hurt others. The banner will then be carried during this walk and used for future awareness events.

Pick up your shirt at the table display where you’ll find important information about Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance services. Come get your free purple ribbons, purple ribbon temporary tattoos and purple balloons. Free Awareness T-Shirts are available to those who register for the walk. Don’t forget to bring your company or school signs/banners, etc. and help us make this a successful event to raise awareness about Domestic Violence.

Participants Should Gather for the Walk at the gazebo at 4:30 pm.

 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm

Walkers will begin to make their way down Main Street, across Adams Street and return to the Gazebo via Fleming Street (~0.7 miles).

When we return to the Gazebo, candles will be lit as part of a short remembrance ceremony to honor those who have lost their lives due to domestic violence. Speakers from Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance and the community will focus on affirming their commitment to ending abuse.  Light refreshments will be available. This event is projected to end at 6:30pm.

Register Now! Be sure to register for the walk to get a FREE T-Shirt.
