Carruthers & Roth, P.A.  is pleased to announce our annual 2019 Business & Tax Seminar taking place on Wednesday, December 4, 2019.  This full-day seminar, designed for CPAs, accounting and tax professionals, will focus on key issues, policies and requirements related to their profession. 

Learning Objectives

  • State the vast changes that have occurred across the US regarding sales tax collection requirements.
  • Explain how sales tax structures apply to various products and services.
  • Identify areas of concern from a sales and use tax nexus and taxability perspective.
  • Determine situations where income tax basis planning may be available and implement methods and mechanisms for engaging in such planning.
  • Provide guidance on key issues involved in administering a decedent’s estate, including procedural requirements, post-mortem income tax planning, retirement benefit distributions, asset transfer considerations, and addressing estate claims and debts.
  • Summarize recent developments in laws and regulations applicable to accounting professionals including amendments to the North Carolina Identity Theft Protection Act and other cybersecurity issues, recent decisions of the NC State Board of Certified Public Accountant Examiners, and recent enforcement of workers compensation laws by the North Carolina Industrial Commission.     
  • Identify key issues, trends, experiences, and important considerations facing a client selling his or her business in a large M&A transaction.
  • Analyze indemnities and guaranties and the triggers, scope and timing of liability in various types of loan, lease and purchase and sale transactions.
  • Describe the new rules, regulations and mechanics applicable to Qualified Opportunity Zones (“QOZs”).
  • Explain how to structure Qualified Opportunity Funds that satisfy the IRS requirements in order to realize the potential tax benefits of investing in QOZs.
  • Assess the impact the QOZ regime will likely have on spurring economic development in distressed communities.
  • Identify federal income tax developments over the last year as they may impact your client's or employer's tax returns.
