African Xylophone from Guinea

Thurs. 2-4 pm - $40

Learn new rhythms on Balafon – African Xylophones. These wooden instruments are beautiful and rich in their melodies. Balafons are provided for you, and we start with simple patterns in a step-by-step manner. In this workshop, we will focus on the Guinea style of balafon.

Burundi Beat

Thurs. 6:00-8 pm - $40

This rhythm from East Africa is played on large wooden drums. The Burundi Beat is very powerful, yet easy to learn. You will learn the basic beat and a series of breaks, along with stops and starts that go with the rhythm.

Slap Happy - Getting Great Sound on Your Drum

Thurs. 8-9:30 pm - $29

Do you ever feel that you are not getting the sound that you would like from your drum? Getting slap sound is not actually all that difficult... You just need the right approach!

African Xylophone from Mali

Fri. 10-Noon - $40

Mali is home to the ancient Mande Empire, where so much music was born. The playing style in Mali is different from the playing style in Guinea or Senegal. In this workshop, you will learn balafon rhythms from Mali.

Bass Drum Fever

Fri. 1-3 pm - $40

It's all about the bass drums! Each bass drum is fitted with its own metal bell, you play interlocking parts that combine to form a powerful polyrhythm.

Develop your rhythmic independence, timing and stick control in this energizing workshop.

Improving Your Speed on Djembe

Fri. 3:30-5 pm - $29

The secret to developing SPEED... Learn simple ways to build your speed and timing on hand drums like djembe, cajon, and congas. Building speed takes a particular learning approach, and in this workshop, you will be given all the tools needed. You will notice a difference in just a few minutes!
