13th Annual Ham Lake Snowbowl Snow Sculpting Contest 

You provide the talent: we provide the snow!

Begin sculpting as early noon on Friday, February 8. 

Sculpture Judging STARTS at 1:30 PM and finishing touches can be put on your sculptures until 2 PM, then TOOLS DOWN. Sculpture awards and prizes will be announced at 2:30 PM Sculptures are judged in 3 categories (ages 10 and under, ages 11-16 and adult).  Judges review sculptures for degree of difficulty, execution, artistic expression and creatiivity. 

  • 10 and Under: 1st place receives a trophy and $100. 2nd place receives $50.
  • 11-16: 1st place receives a trophy and $100. 2nd place receives $50. 
  • Adult: 1st place receives a plaque and $500. 2nd place receives $300. 3rd place receives $150. 
  • People's Choice: Selected by Snowbowl attendees by an anonymous vote. 

Registration fee is $5 per person and gets you a Snowbowl event button, 2 meals and a block of snow!  All fees collected for snow sculpting are only used for sculptor costs. 

Pizza and beverages will be provided Friday evening for sculptors. Vouchers will be given out for Saturday lunches. Bathrooms are available. 

Sculpting area is lit Friday evening. All Sculptors will receive a plaquard with a space for sculptor names, sculpture name and judging category. Plaquards must be completed by 10am Saturday to be a part of the People's Choice Competition or 1pm Saturday for judging. 

Snow Blocks are Provided by the Ham Lake Snow Bowl.  Register today to participate, Entrance Fee is only $5 per person for Snowbowl button and food and refreshments for Friday and Saturday.  Your Snowbowl buttons will be distributed by Chris Mickman on Friday and Saturday when you arrive.  Let us know what size snow block you require:

  • Big Block (6’x6’x6.5’)
  • Medium Block (4’x4’x7’)
  • Small Block (3.5’ tall x 30”)

Rules

  • Only snow, water, and ice from the competition site may be used. No media may be brought in from outside the competition site.
  • Only hand tools are permitted. Teams may not use powered tools of any kind.
  • Molds and forms are not allowed unless the snow is to be manipulated by the teams beyond the molded form. Stamps which impress a letter or shape are prohibited. Additional support such as wooden dowels are prohibited.
  • Finished sculptures must be free of any colorant.
  • Sculptures should be family-friendly and non-political in nature.
  • Up to 3 people can sculpt one block for the adult completion  If other blocks are available later on Saturday morning they can be sculpted as well for no additional charge if you ask permission.  Our goal is artistic expression and creating spectacles for the public!.
