The region needs a greater range of housing types that are affordable to households of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, abilities, and income ranges and that are integrated with our region’s employment and transportation networks. In this session, learn about the challenges to production and how we can implement the Regional Housing Plan’s recommendations for increasing housing options.
A weak housing market in our central cities challenges revitalization. The costs of developing new housing that attract higher income households typically exceed existing market sales or rents. Low property values also create disincentives for homeowners and landlords to make capital investments or properly maintain their properties. This session will explore transformative urban strategies such as innovative value-capture/taxation models; public policy initiatives, public-private collaboration and regional/state coordination.
