Details: Attendance at both workshops is preferred, but participants may attend one without the other.

Session Description: 
Does your organization want to launch a successful individual giving program, but you don’t know where to start? What is the board’s role in this effort? Why is practicing “the ask” important? This 2 part series will provide context AND actionable ways to create a major donor giving program. Organizations are encouraged to register multiple people, as raising money is never just one person’s job.

Topics to be addressed include:
• Identifying potential major donors
• Creating your working committee
• Launching your effort
• The role of memorials/honorarium/planned giving
• Practicing “the ask”
Presenter Bio
Elaine Weber Nelson, founder and principle of WeberNelson Consulting, has more than 20 years experience in the nonprofit world. Having served as staff (grantwriter, appeal manager, major gifts officer, capital campaign lead, planned giving officer, copywriter, marketing manager) to several organizations in St. Paul, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table. As a consultant to small and mid-sized organizations for the past ten years, she's worked on capital campaigns, trained boards on fundraising, developed value propositions and positioning plans, bolstered annual giving campaigns, written grants, and started endowment efforts. Elaine was also an adjunct professor at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota for 15 years, teaching in the undergraduate and M.B.A. programs. She holds an M.B.A. in marketing from the Carlson School and a B.A. from the University of St. Thomas.
