Grantwriting Basics: Fueling your Mission and Programs

Grantwriting Basics: Fueling your Mission and Programs
Monday, February 9, 2015, 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m
Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, 2324 University Ave W., St. Paul, MN 55114
Presented by Lia Rivamonte

Join us for a fast-paced intro/refresher regarding one important aspect of your fundraising and development strategy—grant writing. Grant writing requires knowledge and understanding about your organization’s purpose, capacity, and the population you want to serve. We will discuss how to conduct a search for and locate grant opportunities that match your funding priorities, how to approach potential funders, how to read grant guidelines, common terms in grant writing, gathering and organizing information for your proposal, writing the proposal, supplementary materials, effective cover letters, and reporting requirements.

Writing grants to support your nonprofit may not only be necessary to fund operations, programs, and activities, but the process itself, done thoughtfully and with care, will encourage you, the staff, board, and constituents to think critically about how to make yours a more dynamic, strategic, and effective organization.

Please note: This session is not specific to any MRAC grants.

Lia Rivamonte is an independent grant writer and nonprofit arts consultant. She was the development director for Mixed Blood Theatre prior to becoming the executive director for Banfill Locke Center of the Arts from 2000 to 2013. She is a professional actor, writer, and arts educator. She has an MFA in painting, a BA in art, and leadership training from the University of St. Thomas and Shannon Institute. She served on the MRAC board of directors from 2003 to 2009 and has been a grant panelist for both MRAC and the Minnesota State Arts Board.

The session is free but we ask that you register in advance. Please contact Shannon Forney if you need special accomodations to attend.
