LOCALS - Clarity, Impact and Passion:  How to Talk about What You Do in the Arts!

Clarity, Impact and Passion:
How to Talk about What You Do in the Arts!
Thursday, October 23, 2014, 9:30 a.m to 1:00 p.m,
Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, 2324 University Ave W., St. Paul, MN 55114
Presented by: John Capecci, Capecci Communications Inc.

You are passionate about the arts--that's a given. But how do you convey that passion to others and ignite theirs? How can your day-to-day communication create excitement, increase engagement, and capture the value of what you do, in a few words?

This lively, interactive workshop is geared toward polishing the language you use to answer the Big Question, "So, what does your arts organization do?" You'll learn a number of approaches to making your everyday conversations crisper and more compelling. You'll try out new language and get immediate feedback. And you'll walk out with a toolbox of ideas and strategies for talking about the impact and value of your organization.Through exercises and discussion, you'll explore: using metaphors and "evocative shorthand;" finding differentiators to set your work apart from (or in relationship to) others; engaging listeners at the level of emotional benefits; and casting your listeners in the world of your work. You'll learn how to personalize communications, match your stories to your audiences, and a create a story-valuing culture within your organization.

This session is presented by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council. The session is free, but we ask that you register in advance. Lunch and a continental breakfast are included.

John Capecci is a communications trainer, educator and co-author of the book, Living Proof: Telling Your Story to Make a Difference.
