Pastoral Care: A ministry at the Heart of Christian Faith & Practice
Instructor: Rev. Deborah M. Jenks, M.Div., D.Min., M.S. Pastoral Counseling
This course will be offered in four five-hour classes. Students may enroll in individual sections, or the entire course. Students who are planning to build a portfolio for the purpose of evaluation for future authorized ministries are encouraged to take the full course.
Pastoral Care, caring for those who are hurt, ill, grieving, alienated, lost, or oppressed, is a foundational and distinct ministry of the Christian community. This course presupposes that Pastoral Care is a ministry to which all Disciples of Christ may be called. The course is rooted in a commitment to a shared, mutual participation in caring ministry, and the idea that pastoral care is not exclusively a ministry of ordained clergy.
