ChildFirst Forensic Interviewing and Preparing Children for Court 

ChildFirst™ Mississippi is a permanent training academy, which teaches professionals from various disciplines, in an intensive 40-hour training, how to effectively interview children regarding allegations of abuse and prepare children to testify in court.

**This course is restricted to members of child abuse multidisciplinary teams only. 

This course provides child abuse multidiscplinary teams with a comprehensive introduction to a forensic interview process designed to improve their ability to effectively and reliably interview children about all forms of abuse, while also learning how to prepare the interviewer and child for court testimony.

  • Questioning Children and Process of Inquiry
  • Cultural Competency and the Interview Process
  • Forensic Interview Model
  • Child Development
  • Hearsay and the Child Victim
  • Preparing the Child Witness for Court

  • Potential Blocks in the Interview
  • Multidisciplinary Teams and the Interview Process
Class Size:

Seating in each Child First class is limited to 25 students.

Class Completion Requirements

Attendees have an option between two certificates:

Observer Certificate - for Guardian Ad Litems, judges, etc... who want to get a better understanding of the interview protocol and will not be conducting forensic interviews.

Requirements for this certificate: attending all classroom lectures Monday - Thursday.There is no test or mock interview required for this certificate. Certificate will read particpant has "observed" the training. These participants will NOT be able to conduct interviews with this certificate. 

Completion Certificate - for forensic interviewers, law enforcement, prosecutors or other team members who will conduct forensic interviews on a regular basis.

Requirements for this certificate: attending all classroom lectures, passing an exam AND completing a peer reviewed mock simulated forensic interview with an abused child (actor). These participants will be able to conduct forensic interviews with this certificate.
