Being out in nature helps children calm down.
It helps them relax and concentrate longer.
They become more motivated.
They are less socially inhibited.

And research shows that children learn better outside.

Why don’t more teachers embrace this form of learning?  How can you improve children’s outdoor play? Why is the child-nature connection so important?

Learn more about the power of outdoor play and how you can use it to advance child development and reinforce your classroom work at this AAFCS educational webinar (1.5 PDUs):

The importance and benefits of outdoor play activities are well documented, and it is a natural instinct for children to be drawn to the outdoors.

Dr. McClintic has studied outdoor play extensively….as well as the reasons why some devalue it.  Many of us simply aren’t even aware of the positive aspects of playground time and how it can boost learning.  In fact, most education textbooks don’t even mention outdoor play—despite the growing body of evidence for it.

This webinar will review the latest research on the topic and provide a plethora of activities to help guide outdoor play while stimulating a child’s creativity, interest, and social skills.

In just 90 minutes, this webinar will expand your knowledge on:

  • What the research tells us about outdoor play and its long-term effects on young children
  • Simple steps you can take to incorporate the outdoors into your curriculum
  • The theory of loose parts and how it jumpstarts creativity and problem-solving
  • How to add fresh air to STEM concepts
  • Dozens of brain boosting activities and strategies you can implement immediately—without buying a thing

This webinar will cover a host of topics, from gender differences—girls and boys play differently outside—to fostering an appreciation for our planet and the concepts of sustainability.

Dr. McClintic’s fascinating presentation will incorporate photos, handouts, links, and other trusted resources that you can explore on your own.  And she will explain how you can strike the right balance between too much structure and no guidance in outdoor play.

With the soaring rates of childhood obesity, the realization that new electronic devices are keeping children indoors (and sitting), and the nationwide support for Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative, now is the perfect time to raise this issue in our schools, child care centers, and communities.

It is time to change our thinking and update our knowledge on outdoor play.
