To meet the needs of today’s lifestyles, the appliance industry continues to develop products that will save time, be more energy efficient, and qualify as environmentally friendly.

Programmable features that you control with your cell phone are now available on many large appliances.  Countertops can be made with a variety of new stones and other recyclables. The cost of clothes washers and dryers will spike very soon, making the concept of life-cycle cost important for consumers to understand.  (And washers/dryers as we know them today will soon be gone forever.)

As educators, we must continually update our own knowledge so that we can help our students and consumers make rationale and reasonable decisions.  What are the pros and cons of technology-laden household equipment? What are the significant industry and market trends that will have an impact on consumers?

Two educators and researchers who specialize in residential technology, sit on relevant ANSI standards committees, and serve as president-elect and past-president of the Association of Home Equipment Educators will bring their extensive expertise to this one-of-a-kind, advanced level AAFCS webinar.

In just 90 minutes, they will expand your knowledge on:

  • Current market trends for household appliances
  • How to evaluate usefulness and suitability for a variety of households
  • The makeup of the appliance industry, from both domestic and global perspectives
  • Evaluating kitchen design trends and materials in terms of function and accessibility
  • How to analyze work spaces and make modifications that would make kitchens more functional, efficient, and accessible

Participants will be able to infuse their curriculum with the very latest research and information on household technology and the most up-to-date best practices in kitchen design.  From new safety and accessibility features to healthy home considerations such as indoor air quality, to new microwave cooking guidelines, this webinar will provide practical and essential new content for your programs.

You will also be directed to the best textbooks and resources available for activities and assignments—for both the high school and college classroom.

Spend just 90 minutes with these two content experts and you will have plenty of material to incorporate into your next class or presentation.

The use of technology throughout our households will only increase in the years ahead—it is vital that FCS professionals remain well-informed and ready to teach individuals, families, and communities how to be savvy consumers!
