Financial Planning for the Second Half of Your Life:
15 Key Topics for Older Adults
Check with your state or district to see if this webinar is approved for CEU credit!

The first half of our life is all about working hard, saving, and investing.  And countless magazines, TV shows, educational seminars, and financial planners advise us along the way.

We build our nest egg.

But in the second half of our life—starting in our 50s —we must turn our nest egg into retirement income. It is time to recalibrate.  Vital decisions—some irrevocable—must be made at various ages from 50 to 70½.  Yet consumers….and educators…..tend to overlook this critical juncture and the impact of the decisions made.

FCS professional Dr. Barbara O’Neill has studied the financial habits of older adults to identify when problems occur (even among the well educated), what can be done to prevent them, and how we can help ensure that older adults make smart financial decisions.

She has identified 15 key strategies that will guide you, and those you teach, through the golden years.  Register now for this AAFCS educational webinar (1.5 PDUs):

Financial planning for those over 50 is very different from that of other age groups.  For example:

  • Social Security—you must make irrevocable decisions starting at age 62.
  • Medicare supplemental insurance—you have choices to make.
  • Required Minimum Distribution—calculate correctly or face the highest penalties in the U.S. tax code.

From converting traditional IRAs to Roth IRAs, avoiding excess estate taxes, leaving a legacy gift, to creating a retirement “paycheck,” there is much to learn as we age.  All of these topics will be covered in this webinar along with significant trends that will affect you:

  • Social Security is going completely online.  What does that mean for you?
  • New retirement income options are popping up. Are you aware of them?
  • Baby boomers are working longer and delaying retirement.  How does this affect you?

This is perhaps the most critical time for personal finance education in our lives.  Register today.  In just 90 minutes, you will expand your knowledge on:

  • 15 essential financial topics anyone age 50+ needs to understand and address
  • The most common financial errors made by older adults
  • The required decisions that must be made at “milestone” ages
  • How to increase social security benefits by 8% per year
  • The health and wealth conundrum—the costs of living longer

Plus, you will receive dozens of personal finance resources that educators and consumers can turn to for additional information and tools such as retirement income calculators.

Most of us are looking for the same basic things in retirement. We want to avoid running out of money, paying excess taxes or penalties, or being forced to lower our quality of life or healthcare.  This webinar will help you chart a safe course and avoid the pitfalls that can derail your life plans.

The bottom line is that we can no longer afford to ignore the long-term consequences of short-term thinking about our retirement.  Register today.
