Call to Action! Childhood Obesity is Everyone's Problem
Check with your state or district to see if this webinar is approved for CEU credit!

Obesity is a term that once applied only to adults.  Now, 17% of children and adolescents in the United States ages 2-19 are considered obese.

Childhood obesity is on the national agenda.

Everyone has a role to play in tackling this complex societal issue.  In fact, childhood obesity is not a one-dimensional problem that can be solved by simply counting calories.

This webinar addresses the issue from the perspectives of nutrition, diet, and overall health as well as the critical component that is often missing from the conversation:  the social-emotional aspects.

Hear the latest data and trends on childhood obesity and discover successful prevention and intervention strategies that you can implement immediately. Register now for this AAFCS educational webinar (1.5 PDUs):

How do we define “obesity” in children these days? How do we measure it? Why does this matter, anyway?  This webinar will update you on the many significant changes that have taken place over the last few years that you need to understand.

After the high-level overview of the current situation, you will hear healthy strategies that tackle the problem.  From apps to activities, eating tips to exercise, you will take away plenty of practical and fun ideas and resources to help children make healthy choices.

On the often-overlooked social-emotional side of this subject, learn about the attitudes and behaviors that come into play, how to deal with the serious risk for unhealthy attitudes toward food in general, and how to handle the fragile self-esteem of overweight children.  From a child development professional, you will gain new insight into parental strategies that work and those that do harm, how to adjust your own attitudes and behaviors to be most helpful, and how to deal with ridicule and name-calling.

From eating patterns to attitudes about exercise and other lifestyle and cultural factors….an understanding of the child’s world will help to guide intervention strategies. Learn why a holistic approach is necessary to reduce the chances of a decline in mental health that can bring progress to a halt and lead to major issues later in life.

In just 90 minutes, you will expand your knowledge on:

  • The prevalence, problems, and trends associated with increasing childhood obesity rates
  • Identifying and assessing obese children using BMI tools
  • Detecting the causes of inappropriate weight gain in childhood
  • The holistic impact of childhood obesity on an individual’s quality of life
  • The role of parents and teachers in supporting and helping overweight children
  • Prevention and intervention strategies to combat this issue

Plus, you will receive links to additional online resources and research as well as tips on how to become an advocate on this issue.

Register today and make a difference in the lives of the children in your classrooms, your communities, and in your own home.
