About the Presenter:

Dr. Peggy Sissel-Phelan, EdD has 20 years of experience in research, writing, and presenting on literacy issues, with an emphasis on the impact that literacy has on one’s physical and mental health, family dynamics, and life-course.  Dr. Sissel-Phelan is currently developing a training model for Head Start, a group that she has been involved with for many years.   In 2001 she co-founded Arkansas’ Read Out and Read program – a medical model of pediatric literacy intervention.   She is currently president of the Arkansas Literacy Council.  In addition to classroom teaching at the university level, she has published numerous books, chapters, and articles, and regularly presents on literacy related topics.
