Nutrition and Hydration for Physical Performance:  Guidelines for Teens and Adults

It’s a fact backed by science. Dehydration has a negative effect on physical activity and performance.  But what is the best way to hydrate before a workout or football practice?

It’s also a fact that what we ate for dinner last night, or for breakfast this morning, will affect our endurance and our ability to recover after a strenuous activity.  But what should we eat….and when?

And what about those 5-hour energy drinks and all the protein powders—are they safe? Do they live up to their claims?

Nutrition and hydration advice for active adults, athletes, and teens comes from many sources and the number of quick-fix products on the market seems to be growing by leaps and bounds.  Consumers are confused and may be following unnecessary constraints or making choices that are preventing them from achieving peak performance.

We have developed this webinar to help clear the air and get you up to speed on the latest guidelines for improving physical performance and overall health. Join us at this educational webinar (1.5 PDUs):

Whether you are a “weekend warrior,” a fitness freak, or someone who is engaged in sports or other athletic activities such as dance teams, you…and the individuals you teach or coach…need the right fuel to get moving and stay on course. Energy and endurance are the golden keys to a successful workout! This webinar will unlock a treasure trove of science-based information and the most current recommendations from reliable sources such as American College of Sports Medicine and the American Dietetic Association.

In this 90-minute program including Q&A, you will explore:

  • The specific nutrition requirements for adolescent athletes or active adults
  • Suggestions for pregame and postgame meals
  • Current guidelines for fluid replacement in the physically active person
  • The best beverages to consume before, during, and after sports or fitness activities
  • How to adjust fluid requirements for unique situations such as hot weather, cold weather, or high altitude

The benefits of proper hydration and nutrition for physical activities are many:  faster recovery, decreased fatigue, heightened endurance, and keeping blood sugar at appropriate levels.  In addition, the overall feeling of psychological preparedness will help with motivation.

Your webinar presenters—both registered dietitians, educators, and researchers—will provide material for class discussion on the importance of nutrition as it relates to athletic performance.  Their information is appropriate for use in all sports such as basketball, football, cheerleading, track and field, strength sports, skiing, hiking, and even adult training for 5Ks.

After this webinar, you will have the resources you need to dispel the myths about nutrition and hydration and get your students…and yourself… on the right track for success.
