In just 90 minutes, these learning objectives will be addressed:

  • Compare and contrast strategies for teaching online vs. face-to-face
  • Discuss different modalities of online teaching
  • Learn how to achieve interpersonal connection with online students leading to higher retention
  • Discover how to create an online learning community to support the course
  • Increase awareness of andragogy vs. pedagogy

Whether you are teaching an online course now and want to enhance your skills or are just considering moving into this relatively new domain, this webinar will be appropriate for you. Teaching online can be intimidating to some and thrilling to others-but everyone should be aware of the best practices available to guide you.

Several common stereotypes surrounding online education will be discussed. Do these sound familiar?

  • Online education is an inferior mode of learning
  • It is only for adult learners
  • Faculty ends up feeling isolated
  • It is too difficult to learn if you've been engaged in traditional teaching for a long time
  • Students are desperate or not engaged
  •

Bring your own perceptions, concerns, and your questions...this will be an interactive session.

Learn the 10 Simple Best Practices

Your presenter, Dr. Ruth Neustifter, who has a wealth of experience in both face-to-face and online teaching, will give you the tools you need to ensure success. She will help you understand how to evaluate and grade students, provide feedback effectively, compensate for lack of body language, and how to develop meaningful projects that engage students in real world issues. You will be surprised at how easy it is to implement these practices.

Reinventing Your Classroom Will be Highly Rewarding

Adapting your content and style for online learning is an invigorating process that will allow you to stretch the boundaries of learning, be creative, and reach out in new ways to impart knowledge. You will hear how it can be fun and enjoyable for both the teacher and the students!

You Don't Need to Be a Technology Wizard

The technology is not as challenging as you might think and is becoming more and more user-friendly as the demand for online education grows. This webinar will cover the two main platforms in use today: Elluminate and Blackboard, but it is not necessary for you to be familiar with either one.

Who Should Register?  University professors, Extension educators, high school and middle school teachers, and other training professionals or individuals working with adult learners, particularly those who teach FCS content. Are you wondering if online education is for you? Been engaged in online teaching for a few years and want to improve your skills? Considering a job shift or career transition? Want to keep pace and remain competitive in the job market? These are all excellent reasons for you to register.
