Luncheon Topic:

The Mission of Corporate Angel Network

Presented by: Gina A. Russo, LCSW, Executive Director

Corporate Angel Network is the only charitable organization whose sole mission is to transport cancer patients to the hospital at which they need to be in order to receive a specialized form of treatment. Simply put, we pair empty seats - on both private and corporate planes - with qualified patients who need the rides... at no cost. This not only improves the patients' chances of survival but at the same time, it reduces their emotional stress, physical discomfort, and financial burden.

Ms. Russo completed her undergraduate work at Bucknell University and her Masters Degree at New York University School of Social Work. She was employed at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society from for over 10 years, most recently as the national Executive Director of Patient Access Programs. She designed and implemented the patient call center’s Patient Navigation Program, which provides blood cancer patients with scheduled follow-up phone calls to assure they are not facing access barriers to care. By partnering with the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University to study the outcome of this proactive service, it was found that patients who receive on-going support and guidance are more likely to seek second opinions with specialists for their diagnosis, as well as explore clinical trial treatment options. Ms. Russo joined CAN as Executive Director in July of 2016, and is overseeing program development, operations, fundraising and community relations for the organization.

“I am very excited to join the Corporate Angel Network team as Executive Director. CAN’s mission aligns perfectly with my professional passion to help cancer patients access the best possible care for their diagnosis, regardless of location. I am truly impressed by the positive effect CAN’s work has on patients and their family members and I am thankful to the hundreds of CAN supporters who help make this wonderful service possible.”
