Cathy Van Valen, the Workforce Development Representative with the Office of UC Benefits, is joining us once again to present five fantastic programs for our businesses, to assist in answering employer questions on Unemployment Compensation.

The Programs Include: Unemployment Compensation 101/Overpayment Prevention-Detection-Recovery, Separation Issues/SIDES, Relief From Charges/Suitable Work, and UC Appeals/Hearings.

September 5 - Unemployment Compensation 101 / Overpayment Prevention, Detection and Recovery - This seminar guides employers through the process of the opening a UC Claim through the Department of Labor & Industry’s UC Service Center by an employee who has been separated from employment, permanently or temporarily, or is working less than the employers established full time work week and this seminar will also explain the process the UC Service Center follows when preventing, detecting and recovering overpayments.

October 3 - Separation Issues/State Information Data Exchange System (SIDES) - This seminar will explain the process the UC Service Center follows when investigating and issuing determinations relating to quits and discharges and is intended to provide employers with an overview of the State Information Data Exchange System (SIDES) to include the Act 75 Law change and how it can affect employers. How SIDES can help with the employer’s responsibility to provide timely and adequate responses. How SIDES works and how to assess which option to use.

October 10 - Relief From Charges / Suitable Work - This seminar guides employers through the UC claims process, beginning when an employee is determined financially eligible for benefits and will guide employers through the process of informing the Department of Labor & Industry’s UC Service Center when suitable work offers are made to prospective employees.

November 7 - UC Appeals & Hearings - TENTATIVE DATE - This presentation discusses the UC appeal process, how to prepare for a hearing and will include a mock UC hearing.  Topics include: Benefit appeals, Due process elements, The referee hearing, Rules of evidence and Burden of proof. MIMIMUM of 6 ATTENDEES.
