About The EH&S Academy
Amazing as it may seem, virtually none of the EH&S staff that provide support to the 4,700 colleges and universities in the US have ever received formal academic instruction on how universities function and how EH&S programs might serve to further the mission of their institution. This situation is due in large part to the absence of available training in this area. In 1996, the University of Texas System EH&S Academy was created with support from a grant from NIOSH to provide individuals with training on the breadth of health and safety issues inherent to the university work environment, and to instill an understanding of how universities operate and how to operate a successful EH&S programs within these organizations.
The original 40 hour version of the course has been very successful, providing training to thousands of individuals from across Texas and the nation. The popularity of the course subsequently led to requests for the on-site delivery of condensed versions of the course to train existing staff on key elements, such as what programmatic measures are important, how universities operate, and the special needs of faculty. This two day course will provide a condensed version of the Academy, covering topics identified as being particularly useful and timely, as judged by recent course participants. The topics covered will include a wide range of operational aspects, ranging from how universities work to effective program marketing and communications. The sessions are designed to be very interactive, and ample time will be allocated for questions and discussion.
Testimonial
In my opinion, every EHS person who works at an academic institution would benefit greatly from Dr. Emery’s "EH&S Academy”...it was one of the best-conducted and most valuable trainings I've ever attended...Dr. Emery has the rare ability to understand and convey EHS issues from not only the EHS practitioner’s view, but also the academic institutional view and the faculty members’ view.
