Diabetes Footcare

The Diabetes Footcare Program is a 2 day program which includes some general updates of diabetes and the impact of the disease on the feet and lower extremities.  The role of the nurse in comprehensive footcare assessment, ulcer prevention and footcare management is emphasized.  Various assessment skills are included.

This program includes an afternoon with clients with diabetes where students will have an opportunity to provide foot assessments and determine the client's risk factors.  Client education is emphasized.

Prerequisite - Footcare Certificate

Ruth has authored many manuals in footcare/diabetes education and has developed footcare programs for community colleges.  As a footcare educator she continues to provide direct client services to ensure that she can provide a practical approach to teaching.

Certification as a diabetes educator has enabled Ruth to combine her expertise as a footcare educator and diabetes educator to greater understand the impact of diabetes on the extremities and how to reduce risk factors which could lead to amputations.
