2017 Youth Month Event

Learning to save for what you want in life is a crucial life skill, but it’s one too few young people are learning.

April is Youth Month and Augusta Metro is focusing on helping young people develop good saving habits.

Join us on Saturday, April 29th at 2 p.m. at our Davis Road Branch—205 Davis Road—for a fun and educational youth event that will help teens and youths learn the difference between needs and wants, and how to spend and save for both.

Hootsters and Owlettes will*:

  • decorate their own miniature banks
  • play a Needs vs Wants relay game
  • create a “need” or “want” sign to help encourage their own personal saving
  • plan and buy groceries for a mock dinner using play money, and then “visit” the credit union to deposit their play money into their savings account.

The Youth Month Event will then wrap up with food and drinks. Don’t fly off too soon, though! Our young members will receive a surprise for attending and giving a hoot about saving!

*Activities are age dependent. The recommended minimum age for the activities listed above is 7 years old since the attendees will be discussing ideas concerning needs vs wants, what they personally want to save for, planning and shopping for a dinner that includes one protein, grain, fruit and vegetable, along with counting play money. Other age-appropriate activities will be available for younger attendees.
