A Day Just Like Any Other - Telling the Story of Safety

Everyday employees go to work expecting nothing bad will happen.  The average work environment often unwittingly provides poor training, incomplete procedures, inadequate resources and conflicting goals.  The work gets done and no one gets hurt.  Except, sometimes these gaps come together and an accident happens.  This is where safety professionals typically get involved to ensure nothing like this happens again.  But what about all those other days when nothing bad happens?  What's going on to keep people safe on a "good" day?  By changing the focus from looking for failures to looking at successes, new opportunities to reduce risk present themselves.  This presentation will challenge old conceptions of what creates safety in our organizations!

 

Ron Gantt is Vice President of SCM. He has 15 years experience as a safety leader and consultant in a variety of industries, such as construction, petrochemical and the public sector. Ron has a graduate degree in Advanced Safety Engineering and Management as well as undergraduate degrees in Occupational Safety and Health and Psychology. He is also pursuing a doctorate degree in safety science, focusing on organizational learning. He is a Certified Safety Professional, a Certified Environmental, Safety and Health Trainer, and an Associate in Risk Management. Named by the National Safety Council in 2013 as a Rising Star in Safety, and winner of the Young Talent sponsorship in 2015 by the Resilience Engineering Association.
