Annual 25th & 50th Wedding Anniversary Mass

Cardinal Seán O'Malley, OFM Cap., invites all couples of the Archdiocese of Boston who are marking their 25th and 50th wedding anniversary in 2019 to join him for the annual celebration on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at 3 PM. Mass will take place at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross located at 1400 Washington Street in Boston.

  • Mass will include a special blessing from Cardinal Sean for all participating anniversary couples.
  • Family members and friends of the participating couples, as well as the general public, are welcome to attend.
  • A formal invitation (including general information and directions) will be mailed two weeks prior to the Mass to the home of the anniversary couple.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.     How is this Mass different than other Masses?

During Mass, anniversary couples will be invited to stand in their pews, face one another, and hold hands as they are given a special blessing by Cardinal Seán.

2.      Will our names be in the program or announced?

Couples who register by September 16, 2019 will have their names printed in the program. This list will be distributed with the worship aid and Mass materials. Unfortunately, due to the number of couples renewing their vows, names will not be announced. You may still register up until October 1, however, your names will not appear in the program. You will still be able to renew your wedding vows, and fully participate in the Mass.

3.      Where will I get the materials for the Mass?

The materials for the Mass will be distributed at the front entrance of the church. If you enter the church from either of the side doors, please make your way to the front entrance to pick up materials.

4.      May family and friends come with us?

We encourage family and friends to attend and celebrate with you; they do not need to register.

5.      Is there reserved seating for anniversary couples?

Anniversary couples and guests are invited to sit together and may sit anywhere they prefer but there is no reserved seating for the general public.  We will hold several seats near the altar for those who might may be in a wheelchair, use a walker or need an ASL interpreter.

6.      How will the photos be taken?

Group photos (by year of anniversary) will be taken with Cardinal Seán after Mass has ended. Anniversary couples are asked to remain in their pew after the recessional and announcements will be made as to when to come forward for the group photos.

7.      Will we be able to purchase the group photos?

Complimentary photos can be viewed and downloaded at bostoncatholicphotos.com. Information will be provided on the Mass program and in the mailed invitation.

8. Can a family or friend take a photo with our camera?

Yes, however, please advise family and friends to remain behind the professional photographer so the professional photos may be taken.

9.  When should we arrive?

You should arrive no earlier than 2:15PM since the Cathedral is in use up until that time.  We ask for all to honor this request as it becomes very crowded in the lobby entrance and is not safe for our guests when crowds are exiting prior services. Thank you!

10.  Where should we park?

Please click here for the complete list of Cathedral of the Holy Cross weekend parking options. We recommend dropping off guests who are not able to walk distances.

11.  Is the church handicap accessibile?
Yes, the church is handicap accessible.

12.  Will there be a reception following Mass?

Unfortunately, due to ongoing events, there is not a reception following the Mass.

13.  Someone in my party is hearing impaired, will an interpreter be provided?

Please email Emily Elliott (eelliott@rcab.org) to arrange for an interpreter. We will remain in touch with you to let you know when one has been arranged and where to sit.

Congratulations on your special anniversary and

thank you for your witness to the vocation of marriage!
