BioTech 37: Real Time, Quantitative and Digital PCR
                                         (Formerly Bio-Trac 37)

Biotechnology Training Courses at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)

Conventional PCR has revolutionized the detection and analysis of nucleic acids.  However, one of its major limitations has been the inability to accurately quantitate the amount of product, which reflects the amount of starting material, due to differing plateau effects among multiple samples. The need to accurately determine quantitative changes in gene expression has led to the adoption of real-time RT-PCR as the method of choice not only for quantitative gene expression but also for validating results obtained from array analyses and other techniques that evaluate gene expression changes on a global scale. This lecture/laboratory course is intended for those who have a fundamental background in PCR and will address the basic chemistries of real time PCR and the many platforms available.

Lecture and Laboratory Topics
Introduction to and Brief History of Real-Time PCR; Sample Processing: DNA/RNA Extraction and Purification for Real-Time PCR; Probe Chemistries and Real-Time Instrumentation including Amplification using Three Different Platforms; Assay Development; Quantitative Real-Time PCR; Multiplex Real-Time PCR; Array qPCR; Droplet Digital PCR (ddPCR).

Credit
Although no grades are given for BioTech Courses, each participant will receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) based on the number of contact hours. Upon completion of this 5-day program, each participant will receive 3.5 CEUs. Upon completion of each workshop, a certificate is issued.

Refund Policy
1.  100% tuition refund is available for registrations cancelled 14 or more days prior to the start of the workshop.
2.  50% tuition refund is available for registrations cancelled between 4 to 13 days prior to the start of the workshop. Instead of a partial refund, you may elect to take a full workshop credit, which can be applied to another BioTech program of similar length.
3.  No refund is available for registrations cancelled 3 days or less prior to the start of the workshop.  A full workshop credit will be available to you, which can be applied to another BioTech program of similar length.

All cancellations must be received in writing to registration@faes.org, Attn. Ms. Carline Coote; during normal business hours (8:30 – 4:30 EST).  Those received after hours are time marked for the following day.  In the case of situation numbers 2 or 3, you must indicate whether you are opting for the full credit alternative at the time of written cancellation. In both cases, all payments will be processed by the start of the initial workshop.
