The Alexander Foundation, one of Denver’s oldest and most respected community organizations, is pleased to announce our annual Spring Fling fundraising event will be held on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 685 Emerson Street in Denver. This annual event is held to raise funds to further the mission of the foundation which is to provide financial assistance to the LGBT community of Colorado. Year after year this annual event has been considered one of the most anticipated of the year and the kick off to the summer party season.
From 6:00p.m. until 9:00p.m. guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres provided by one of Denver’s premier caterers, Gourmet Fine Catering, as well as cocktails, and a margarita bar courtesy of Coyote Gold Margaritas. We will also hold a “progressive auction” which will offer participants the opportunity to bid on not just one item, but a collection of items. Plus, we will be making a very special announcement about the future of the foundation that will have a profound impact on our future efforts.
The residence at 685 Emerson Street has been home to a number of historic luminaries of Denver. Harry C. James built the home for his wife, May, in 1900. Mr. James, along with his father and sister, were responsible in part for the creation of the Denver Natural History Museum, now known as the Museum of Nature and Science. Later, the home was the residence of Dr. & Mrs. J.H. Tilden. Dr. Tilden was one of the most renowned physicians in the country in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
In 1967, the home was purchased by John W.R. Crawford and his wife Dana. Much of the resurgence of Denver’s “Lodo” area is owed to the efforts of Mrs. Crawford after spearheading the revitalization of historic Larimer Square. The home has been in the Crawford family for more than forty years, with the current owner being John W.R. Crawford IV, Mrs. Crawford’s son. At present this stately home is on the market and available for purchase.
Through your generous contribution, we will be able to continue to assist thousands of people in our community who have found themselves in need of financial assistance. Thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you on the 13th!
Sincerely,
The Alexander Foundation Board
