landscape problems. After a brief class discussion the correct answer will be discussed by our

Dr. Monica Elliott, Professor, Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center
Dr. Elliott will provide updates on diagnosis and control strategies for palm diseases currently
impacting Florida.

Selecting the Right-Tree-For-The-Right-Place
Dr. Andrew Koeser, Asst. Professor, University of Florida
The wrong tree in the wrong place is the bane of our industry. In this session Dr. Koeser will
discuss the attributes and appropriate spaces needed for numerous trees suitable for use in South
Florida (Miami location) and North and Central Florida (Tampa location).

Florida Mangrove Regulations & Proper Mangrove Pruning
Dr. Don Richardson, Ecological Consultants, Inc.
In this session you will learn the State regulations about pruning and removing protected
mangrove trees. Don will also discuss the different pruning techniques for each mangrove
species.

OUR SPEAKERS

DR. A.D. ALI

Dr. Ali has over 25 years experience in the Green Industry. Currently as a Senior Scientist within the Technical Services group at the Davey Institute, he provides technical support to Davey, conducts applied research, writes technical reports and is an Instructor in the Davey Institute’s arboriculture and lawn care courses.  He also provides Horticultural Sciences consulting services including Plant Health Care seminars, plant problem diagnosis and landscape management. Dr. Ali is an Adjunct Professor at Hodges University and is a Board Certified Master Arborist.

NORM EASEY

Norm Easey has been an active member of ISA for over 35 years and is a charter member of the Florida Chapter ISA.  Norm has been active in urban forest management and arboriculture in Florida since receiving his bachelors’ degree in Forestry/Resource Management in 1980 from the University of Wisconsin. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Florida Chapter ISA. He also has a part-time urban forestry consulting practice where he specializes in tree risk assessment and urban forest management. For 18 years he was the Forestry Manager for Sarasota County, Florida as well as having been a County Forester with the Florida Forest Service.

JEFF EICKWORT

Jeff Eickwort is a Biologist and the Supervisor of the Forest Health Section of the Florida Forest Service. The Forest Health unit has statewide responsibility for forest pest surveys, evaluations, and impact assessments. In addition, the Forest Health Staff provides technical training to Florida Forest Service personnel, DPI Inspectors, and other groups upon request. Forest Health staff are also involved in the writing/production of technical and informational literature to provide timely information to Florida’s forestry community and citizens.

DR. MONICA ELLIOTT

Dr. Elliott is a Professor with the University of Florida, Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center, Fort Lauderdale, FL.  She has a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from Montana State University, Bozeman, MT.  Dr. Elliott has authored 5 books and more than 35 scientific papers on the subject of plant pathology. Dr. Elliott is also widely known as preeminent expert on the subject of ganoderma fungus of palm trees. She co-created a web-based Palm Diagnostic Tool at http://idtools.org/id/palms/symptoms/index.php.

DR. ANDREW KOESER

Dr. Koeser is an Asst. Professor of Landscape Management at the UF-Gulf Coast Research and Education Center and is a Board Certified Master Arborist.  Prior to working in Florida he was on staff at ISA International in Champaign, IL. Andrew holds a Ph.D in Crop Sciences and an M.S. in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and a B.S. in Forestry from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point. He is currently on the Florida Chapter ISA Board of Directors and is a member of the Education Committee.

DR. DON RICHARDSON

Dr. Richardson is the President/Principal of Ecological Consultants, Inc. in Tampa, FL. Don earned his Ph.D. in Biology/Plant Ecology from the University of South Florida after earning his M.S. from Atlantic University in Boca Raton and his B.S. from Michigan Technological University. He specializes in wetland surveys, wetland mitigation and enhancement project, listed species surveys, fire ecology, upland vegetation analysis and resource management plans for environmental preserves. He is a member of several environmental organizations and continues to publish peer reviewed papers while consulting.
