Musical Theater Extravaganza this spring at Queen of Angels School! 

Be careful what you wish for, as Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s fairytale comes to life in this adaptation of their groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical. Into the Woods features all of your favorite characters — Cinderella, Cinderella's Prince, Little Red Riding Hood and The Wolf, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch — in this lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.

The musical centers on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse, and wind up changed forever.

 Join Musical Chairs Studio this January as children in grades 2nd - 5th will escape to this magical work and prepare the musical performance of Into The Woods. Directed by Pavi Proczko with musical direction by Stuart Thomspon, weekly rehearsals will work on acting skills, rehearsing lines, learning choreography and music. Session will culminate in a full musical theater production of Disney's Into the Woods Wednesday, May 20th at 5:30 pm.

Children will be assigned roles in January. Older students will be assigned roles with more extensive lines to prepare and possible voice solos. Younger children may be cast with smaller speaking parts to help gain experience in acting and preparing lines. Consideration will always be given to help build each child's confidence and self-esteem while learning teamwork and having fun. Students will also receive special musical coaching from voice instructor Stuart Thompson as they prepare for the challenging music that will be performed in the show.

Older students who are cast in major roles will be expected to learn their lines at home and come prepared to rehearse in a group. For roles requiring solo vocal performances, consideration of vocal experience, ability and interest will be given when casting. Each student will receive a music CD with the songs for the musical. We encourage listening at home to help learn words and melody.

Participation in our fall session is not a mandatory prerequisite to the spring session. However, the fall session is designed to help prepare for spring so casting decisions could lean toward fall participates who have this background. 

Ages: 2nd through 5th Grades    

Rehearsals:  Wednesdays 3:15 - 4:30 - at Queen of Angels Lower Church - Children will be picked up from their classrooms at dismissal and taken to the lower church by two drama instructors. Parents will pick up children at the lower church or children can be taken to extended care.

 - For monthly 2:15 dismissal days, class will be from 2:30 - 3:45 pm

Tuition:  $400 - payable as a lump sum or $200 prior to Jan. 16th and $200 due by March 1st. 

Spring Session runs January 8th through May 20th.

Please note there will be one Saturday Dress Rehearsal on May 9th, 10:00 - 12:00 in the lower church. It is important that all performers attend.
