June 2 2016 - 10am to 4pm - Location TBA - Ottawa

Employment Standards Compliance Workshop Details - 10am-1pm

The Ontario Ministry of Labour has just announced their planned 2016/17 inspection 'blitzes'. One such 'blitz', which will target both the Central and Eastern Regions (so, ... most of you) is aimed at Child Day-Care Services and compliance with the Employment Standards Act. This 'blitz' will consist of unannounced surprise inspections by Employment Standards Branch Officers from October 1st to November 30th, 2016, and will of course be focussed upon Employment Standards compliance. This workshop will help prepare you for these inspections, and will help you to avoid compliance orders and punitive fines. Use this workshop to ensure that all of your written employment contracts for the 2016/17 school year are Employment Standards compliant, BEFORE you present them to your employees for signing.

Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy Template Update Details - 1pm-4pm

Our provincial  government has again expanded private school responsibilities, under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. In particular, you now need to revise your Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy to include an expanded definition of, and response to, sexual harassment. Bill 132, the Sexual Violence and Harassment Action Plan Act, received Royal Assent on March 6th and will come into force on September 6th, 2016, just in time for our new school year. Employers must now include a definition of “workplace sexual harassment”, expand workplace harassment policies to include (i) procedures for workers to report incidents of workplace harassment to a person other than the employer or supervisor, if the employer or supervisor is the alleged harasser; (ii) details as to how complaints will be investigated and dealt with; (iii) a commitment that information obtained about an incident or complaint of workplace harassment will not be disclosed unless the disclosure is necessary for the investigation or corrective action; and (iv) details as to how a victim and alleged harasser will be informed of the results of the investigation. New statutory duties must include an investigation into complaints of sexual harassment; that the victim and alleged harasser be informed in writing of the results of the investigation; and that the workplace harassment program be revised annually. Take advantage of this policy template update workshop to have your policy compliant before the mandated September 6th, 2016.

Participants will be offered a quick 'working lunch' at 1pm and should bring either a laptop or tablet and be prepared to work online during this workshop.
