The Ballona Wetlands on the southside of Culver Blvd, east of Nicholson St near Playa Del Rey
From parking lot, walk to Culver Blvd turn left, walk to Nicholson Blvd, cross Culver Blvd, carefully cross Nicholson Blvd, carefully walk along Culver Blvd near the bikepath to the restoration site.
Note: There is a gate to the Ballona Wetlands at the parking lot, but this entrance is for different part of the Wetlands and will not connect you to this event.
Iceplant (Carpobrotus edulis) is native to South Africa which shares a similar climate with Southern California. Because iceplant didn't co-evolve with our local plant communities, it will crowd out and prevent the growth of native plants that adversely affects other species that depend upon them. By removing iceplant, we help restore some balance which can have cascading benefits.
Since 2016, volunteers have removed icepland and other non-native plants and we've already seen native plants such as saltgrass and Alkali weed start to return to the cleared areas. We need your help to continue this success!
Please bring water, snacks, a hat, and wear closed-toes shoes.
