Aquaponics Workshop

Join us for an introduction into aquaponics

Aquaponics has become popular and it can be a fun and exciting way to grow both fish and vegetables. Despite the surge in popularity very few growers have been successful in aquaponics on a commercial level. Growing fish and greenhouse vegetables is difficult and selling those products is even more difficult. Despite the surge in popularity, there is a limited amount of validated information available.

The goal of this workshop is to provide you with the information necessary to make the informed decision "Is aquaponics right for my farm?" In this workshop we will walk through the University of the Virgin Island System, aquaponic basics, choke points and economics.

The workshop will be from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM on June 11th at the Black Belt Research and Extension Center

60 Co Rd 944, Marion Junction, AL 36759

At the end of the workshop attendees will have the option to travel 20 minutes to tour Weissinger Lakes. Weissinger Lakes is the largest indoor tilapia farm in Alabama and is located in Browns, Alabama. Sorry we cannot provide transportation. The tour will be over with by 5:00 PM.

Registration is limited to 40 participants.  Registration is free to the public.  This workshop is contingent on a minimum registration of 15 participants. To participate you must register by Tuesday, June 9th.
