Dear Friend,

As most of you know, our family lost a VSP (Very Special Person) in October 2007 in a Domestic Violence(DV) incident. Marijke McMahon was a true gem, a High School valedictorian, a Master Montessori teacher, a mother of twin daughters. More than a relative, Marijke was a friend to her family and a light to her community. As part of our family’s response to this horrific loss, we formed a 501(c)(3) called In Honor of Her to continue the work of DV prevention, awareness and support.

Over the years since our inception, we have raised nearly $500,000 that is used annually for housing, clothing, furniture, education and more for those women in desperation, women with children trying to find peace and love amongst the agony of a broken heart. Our stewardship is well known – we have supported The House of Ruth, The Heartly House, Opening New Doors, DASH, The Laurel Center – just to name a few. And it seems almost just a drop in the bucket as we read more and more about the bully-spirit that continues in our communities, the heartbreak of DV.

So, I write today to ask for your help. This year we will “do what Marijke would do” as we sponsor our twelfth annual gala and begin to engage a new generation of volunteers. After a COVID break of two years, we will gather again on October 29th at 7:30 PM, to have a Halloween Party (Yes! Marijke loved Halloween!) at Silo Falls in Brookeville MD to celebrate our Super Heroes and Legacy Supporters who continue to inspire the message of care, of concern, of forgiveness. We ask you to join us physically and/or financially in this endeavor, and are enclosing information to foster your commitment. EVERY BIT HELPS, EVERY SINGLE CENT!

Please Join Us In This Drive, Marijke Would Be So Honored!

With gratitude,
