ASIST Training / Suicide Prevention

May 3rd & 4th, 2017

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is by far the most widely used, acclaimed and researched suicide intervention training workshop in the world. Small group discussions & skills practice are based on adult learning principles.

ASIST is an evidence-based 2-day intensive and interactive workshop designed to build suicide intervention skills using a structured model to de-escalate a suicidal situation and build skills in safety planning.

Nurses, physicians, mental health professionals, pharmacists, teachers, counselors, youth workers, police, first responders, correctional staff, school support staff, clergy, and volunteers have all found that ASIST complements their existing training and knowledge. Completion of the ASIST program fulfills the requirements for the new Teacher License per the State Senate Bill 4 (IC20-18-2-22(b)).

May 3-4, 8:30am-4:30pm each day

Registration begins on the first day at 8am. The cost covers snacks, lunch both days and all the materials needed for the course. The two day ASIST program is sponsored by the Suicide Prevention Center and the Elkahrt Samaritan Center. Attendance is required both days.
In this workshop you will have an opportunity to explore your experiences with and your attitudes about suicide.  You will also have an opportunity to better understand the needs of a person at risk of suicide and learn how to use suicide first aid to meet those needs. Some people may register for ASIST looking for either Suicide First Aid for yourself, bereavement services or some other kind of help.  If so, we encourage you to take this workshop at a later date when you don’t feel so vulnerable.
