The Federation of Community Social Services of BC invites you to our February Conference and Social Policy Forum. Help us tackle the most complex issues facing our communities today.
In May 2015 The Representative for Children and Youth released a report entitled Paige’s Story. It illustrates the many ways in which BC's social care system fails to meet the needs of our most vulnerable citizens. It’s time to take action. Join us on February 18-19, 2016 as we take the first important steps on the way to systemic change.
We will hear from community organizer, social entrepreneur, and author Al Etmanski. We will work together in Open Space, led by Chris Corrigan, one of the most experienced Open Space facilitators in the world. We will come together to forge a sector-wide response to the issues documented in Paige’s Story. That’s the promise of this event.
We need people at the table who are as complex and diverse as the problems we face, people ready and willing to plot a new course for young people like Paige. Whether you provide only youth services or no youth services, we need your voice in the room. Whether you have 400 employees or 4, we need your voice in the room. Whether you have MCFD, Justice, Health of CLBC contracts, we need your voice in the room.
Participants should read Paige’s Story prior to the event. The Federation will provide reflective questions to consider in preparation. Day one will be spent in conversation, exploring the implications of the report and what we have learned. Day two will focus on analyzing our learning, developing an action plan, and seeking champions to take the work forwards.
This is the start of a movement. This work will carry on in future Federation conferences. It will inform other Federation projects and initiatives. It will allow us to collaborate on important, necessary changes within our broad sector. It will show that we are altogether better.
