Respirtator Fit Test Certificate Course

PARTICIPANTS MUST BRING THEIR OWN PERSONAL RESPIRATOR or a "disposable respirator" will be issued. Note: Under OSHA Standard 1910.134, fit testing must be performed initially (before the employee is required to wear the respirator in the workplace) and must be repeated at least annually. Fit testing must also be conducted whenever respirator design or facial changes occur that could affect the proper fit of the respirator. 2 CUEs

Duration of Training Session: 1 hour (plus fit test time)

 Scope:
Occupational Safety & Health Administration's (OSHA) Respiratory Protection Standard [29 CFR 1910.134(f) requires that before any employee is required to use any respirator with a tight fitting face piece the employee must be train in the proper use, care and maintenance of respirators. This program complies with the standard and contains the following:

Part I
Class Room Curriculum:

  1.  Employee & Management Responsibilities
  2.  When RPP must be used
  3.  Personal Medical Considerations & Medical Evaluation Procedures
  4.  Explain the differences between Qualitative and Quantitative Fit Testing
  5.  Facial Hair & Eye Glass Fit Testing Considerations
  6.  Highlight the Company Respiratory Training Program
  7.  Respiratory Protective Device Inspection Procedures
  8.  Respiratory Protective Device Storage Procedures
  9.  Different Respiratory Protective Devices
  10.  Respiratory Cartridges & Canisters
  11.  The Warning Signs of Respiratory Device Failure
  12.  Maintenance & Cleaning Procedures of Respiratory Protective Devices

Part II
Following the classroom session each user will be individually fit tested using a qualitative procedure that includes a Saccharin or Bitrex protocol.

Procedures:
Size, adjust and demonstrate donning and adjustment of the respirator

1. Conduct a 5-minute comfort assessment
2. Perform the user seal check with testing agents
Test: A 10-question, multiple-choice test is administered at the conclusion of the program.

Course Materials: All participants are issued an instructional training manual

Course Completion Certificate: Program participants who successfully complete the course are issued a certificate of completion.
